THE LIGHT GARDEN
Andres Leung  |  Transition & Shelter  |  Light & Shadow
The light garden located in the Village Square in South Eveleigh is a proposal which mainly provides an architectural experience where you keep coming back again. An important feature is the long dark pathway with movable glass column at both side allows light coming from the outside and people can interact with the column and play with refraction. The design encourages all members of the community to relax from a fast-piece environment. whether you are a student to come and just sit and study, just come for a walk during lunch time or after work, or simply just come here to take some cool photos, The light garden is worth to go
Process Timeline
Fragment Reconstruction Matrix
Through my analysis and iterations of geometric shapes from Orford Castle, “fragments” of those shapes went through three stages of iteration process that lead into the development of the nine fragments. These nine fragments were then further analysed and modelled to distinguish which option was most suitable for the development and next stage of the design proposal.
Fragment Analysis
After I finished my Fragment Reconstruction, I narrow down 3 main idea I want to focus and to further explore how it will work in the real space.

Concept of collective theme | Challenging Sustainability
From a global perspective, Sustainability is a highly discussed topic where countries are encouraged to move towards a regenerative future that address climate issues and focuses on improving the overall wellbeing of society. Overall, creating a design that focuses on maintaining a healthy environment while aiming to minimise negative environmental impacts, energy consumption, and use of human resources.

The Generative path allows for the fast and smooth movement of an individual moving through everyone's site, it allows for people to see the next site creating a sense of curiosity and excitement.

Neighbours allow for the quick movement between the sites. The cluster allows for individuals to experience a wider variety of designs, experience new thresholds and interact within voids and spaces. It also allows us to showcase the who is moving in and out of the site
Thematic Study | Light Pollution

Light pollution

Bring to question the constant use of “sustainable” energy
- Play off heat to create an experience of global warming
- Work off site elements - Road lighting for vehicles and pedestrians
- Define areas of darkness and over powering light
- Light distribution throughout site

The Future Ruin | About the Future
Our studio decided to focus on the thematic idea of 'Nature taking back the earth' through increased rain levels/flooding, also overgrowth of moss and vine. This circumstance will affect our design, however, it will showcase a totally different perspective of our design. These unnatural changes would remind every human on the planet of the connection between city and nature, as well as the idea of nature and Earth, should be respected and loved.
